Anne Frank: A Life in the Shadows

Early Life

Annelies Marie Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in 1929, to a Jewish family. Her older sister, Margot, was three years her senior.

Hiding from the Nazis

In 1940, Anne's family was forced to go into hiding after the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. They lived in a secret annex in Amsterdam for over two years, until they were discovered and taken to a concentration camp.

Death and Legacy

Anne tragically died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945, just weeks before its liberation. Her diary, which she wrote while in hiding, became a worldwide bestseller and a testament to the horrors of the Holocaust.

Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House, located in the former secret annex, is now a museum dedicated to Anne's memory and the fight against intolerance and discrimination. It is visited by millions of people each year, who come to learn about Anne's life and her enduring legacy.
